Reduce Downtime: Preventive Maintenance and Usage Tips for Pneumatic Double-Diaphragm Pumps

Reduce Downtime Preventive Maintenance and Usage Tips for Pneumatic Double-Diaphragm Pumps| TDS-DYISHENG Pump

Air operated double diaphragm pumps are widely used in various fluid transport equipment. To ensure the stability and durability of diaphragm pumps, preventive maintenance is crucial. By taking appropriate measures, the risk of failures can be reduced, the pump's lifespan can be extended, and work efficiency can be improved.

The following are suggested preventive maintenance and usage tips: (Some conditions may require the installation of related functional accessories).

  • Ensure the compatibility of pump materials with the transported fluid: Before purchasing a diaphragm pump, it is essential to confirm with the distributor or manufacturer the specifications of the selected pump and its compatibility with the transported fluid. Avoiding situations where the pump components corrode, deform, or crack due to the inability of the pump materials to withstand the fluid characteristics is crucial in preventing rapid pump failures.

  • Develop good usage habits: After each day's work, it is crucial to clean and empty the fluid inside the air operated diaphragm pump. This prevents the fluid from solidifying, precipitating, or crystallizing within the pump, which can cause failures in the ball valves and diaphragms.

  • Use low working pressure (recommended below 3 bar): Use the minimum required driving air pressure to achieve the desired flow conditions. Operating at lower air pressure can reduce the wear rate of the leakage rings and reciprocating parts inside the air driven diaphragm pump, thereby extending the overall pump's lifespan. It also contributes to energy efficiency and carbon reduction. It is recommended to install an air pressure regulator to adjust the intake pressure.

  • Maintain a constant temperature and dry compressed air delivery pipeline: In compressed air pipelines with high humidity and low temperatures, condensation is more likely to occur. Deposited condensation can cause rusting of metal pipelines or abnormal pump operation if excessive condensation enters the pump chamber. To avoid maintenance costs resulting from pump failures, it is advisable to install compressed air water filtration accessories to filter out condensation in the compressed air pipeline and keep the pipeline clean and dry.

  • Anti-vibration installation: Pneumatic diaphragm pumps are reciprocating pumps, and therefore, the impact of vibrations should be considered during installation. It is important to avoid vibrations that may cause damage to the pump itself or its connected mechanisms, potentially resulting in cracks or detachment of the air chamber or pipelines, leading to leaks. It is recommended to use cushioning pads during pump installation and flexible hoses or connectors with buffering designs for pipeline installation to reduce the impact of vibration pulses.

  • Maintain proper lubrication of the compressed air pipeline: In the air chamber design of air-driven double diaphragm pumps, there are many sealing rings and reciprocating components that require proper lubrication. This helps reduce friction and prolong the lifespan. However, it is important to ensure the use of an appropriate amount of lubricating oil to prevent excessive lubrication oil from causing a blockage in the air chamber and affecting the pump's normal operation. It is suggested to install compressed air lubrication accessories to add lubricating oil and control the injection rate for optimal lubrication.

  • Proper filtration of transported fluids: Most air-operated double membrane pumps use ball check valves, which have limitations on permissible particle sizes in the fluid. When too big impurities enter, it can cause check valve failure or pipeline blockages. Installing suitable filtration accessories to filter out inappropriate impurities and foreign substances can prevent unnecessary maintenance costs (time, money, etc.).

  • Periodic Inspection: Regularly check whether the operating frequency of the pump is normal and whether there is no irregular or abnormal exhaust condition. And check the appearance of the pump and connecting pipelines to ensure that there are no cracks, looseness, or leakage. At the same time, check the pipeline connection, and bolt fastening status, and the Pneumatic system is working.

  • Read the operation manual and receive training: Before using a pneumatic duplex membrane pump, it is essential for every operator to thoroughly read the manufacturer's operation manual. Adequate training and education by experienced personnel should be provided to understand the correct operating procedures and precautions for the pump.

  • Adhere to the precautions in the operation manual: Avoid the operator installing or operating the pump in violation of the safety precautions recommended in the operation manual due to convenience or lack of familiarity.

Preventive maintenance is crucial to ensure the reliability and durability of air-operated double diaphragm pumps. By implementing the preventive maintenance measures mentioned above, we can ensure the stable operation of the pneumatic diaphragm pumps during critical moments, improve production efficiency, reduce maintenance costs, and increase economic benefits.
